The beauty of a Formal Garden

I just love formal gardens that echo the classical European style of centuries past. A formal garden includes a controlled palette of plants, hedging, topiary, neat paths and classical statuary, resulting in a sense of timelessness and restrained elegance. If you are considering this classic European style for your own garden then remember it needs to be adapted for our climate and should suit your home’s period architecture.

Beautiful textiles for your home

I enjoy creating dream furnishings for my clientele that they’ll love for years. Whether its cushions, slipcovers, upholstery, window dressings, a lampshade or even a quilt there are so many gorgeous fabrics out there to choose from. They can completely transform an entire room.

Westbury Textiles is one of my favourite destinations for beautiful high quality fabrics. Their ranges are sourced from some of the finest mills in the world. The colour palette is predominately neutral think Armani colours, muted tones and a few accent pieces. My favourites are the Belgian and glazed linen and textured neutral weaves.

See below some examples of their latest fabrics.

Simple and timeless style in the Bahamas

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of island living and a house that I’ve long admired belongs to India Hicks and David Flint Wood in the Bahamas. This beautiful home has such a calming effect on the senses with its predominately white palette. There is no colour more universally favoured for interiors than white. The owners have combined antique furniture and new pieces to great effect. Cool understatement is key – the style is simple and timeless. I’m also a big fan of India Hick’s range of toiletries from Crabtree and Evelyn, which I use in my own bathroom. They have a beautiful scent and are stylishly packaged.

Classicly designed home in LA

I just adore Veranda Magazine. They never disappoint with images of exceptional homes from around the world. Recently, Veranda partnered with designer Windsor Smith, who created a beautiful, classically designed home in Los Angeles. And other well renowned designers joined the project.

The results speak for themselves, this home is elegant and sophisticated. The secret is to use simple design and imaginative touches. Here, layers of quiet, eye pleasing neutrals are blended together with just a hint of colour. The design makes you feel instantly relaxed and at home!
